$27 PAINTINGS FOR PEOPLE

In the very early 2000s, in a place far, far away called Make Olympia Cool Again, there was an art space called Arrowspace. Arrowspace was upstairs above the old Dumpster Values (when the inspirational Kanako Wynkoop owned it), which is now Underhill Plants. Former Olympia residents Stefan Simikich and Mr. Mike had a $10 art show during Oly Arts Walk and sold all their paintings for only $10. It was cheap enough that anyone could buy their work. It was inspiring in price and execution—no precious hours of worrying over the canvas occurred. Doodled drawings on 2-foot panels, as I recall. It had an easy, uncontrived feel. I always have this show in mind and have half-assedly tried to get other painters to join me. These $27 paintings are inspired by that show. BUT also, by Jessica! Jessica got all these small panels to work on and happened to want to sell them for cheap as well. We’d never talked about the $10 show of yore. Unfortunately, Jessica wasn’t able to carry out her vision because life is busy. We’ll do it in the future. If any fellow makers or painters want to do that sort of accessible, priced art sale in the future, for under $40, hit me up! ronified@gmail.com
